Public Safety Advisory: High Flow Levels on North Sask River System

The Water Security Agency (WSA) has issued a High Flow Advisory for the North Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan River systems. Recent heavy rainfall in Alberta is moving downstream, causing water levels and river speeds to increase dramatically.

Rapidly rising river water levels are expected to rise by nearly two metres (6.5 feet).

Levels are expected to peak on Friday, June 26, 2026, and the water currents will be incredibly strong and dangerous.

Because more rain is forecast across the basin, water levels may stay elevated or continue to rise over the coming days.

Required Safety Precautions:

  • Stay Back from Riverbanks: Rapidly changing currents can cause sudden shoreline erosion and unstable ground.
  • Keep Pets Leashed: Ensure pets are kept far away from the water's edge.
  • Avoid Recreation Water Activities: Do no attempt to swim, boat, or paddle on the river system during this advisory.  High flows bring heavy, hidden floating debris like logs and branches.

Stay Informed:

For the latest flow rates, water level tracking, and official updates, view the original advisory on the Water Security Agency Website.

The WSA is actively monitoring conditions closely and will provide updates as the situation develops.  For immediate safety risks or flooding emergencies, please contact local emergency services.
